Beverley Football Club- Home of the Beverley Redbacks sporting teams!

The Redbacks regret to announce that our 2010 Tasmanian recruit, and his fiance, Anna Hollingsworth are headed back to that miserable island, and will not be residing in Beverley in 2011.

Laine was a teacher at the Beverley school in 2010, however was not offered a job at the school in 2011. Anna was a nurse at York hospital. They decided after weighing up several factors, that the move back to Tasmania suited them in the long term and they will be sadly missed by all members of the Beverley community!

I know Laines father,  Mike, was a regular reader of this website, from Tasmania, and I hope they keep in touch with the club, whether it be through this site, or whatever means!

BREAKING NEWS: Fiona took out the hockey best and fairest with a whopping 162 votes. Kelly Piper came in 2nd with 80 something. Each player in the team votes each week. They give 2 votes to the best player, and 1 vote to the 2nd best player. Fiona did dominate in each game I watched and will hopefully lead them to a grand final win in the upcoming weeks.

Congratulations to 17-year-old Gerald Ugle who made his league debut for the Perth Demons on the weekend. Gerald has done everything right on his quest to become an AFL player, including being a member of the AIS squad, going through the state teams, and this is another notch under his belt.

We will be closely following Gerald's progress through the next year and hopefully he gets picked up by one of the teams. The addition of the two new AFL teams should only help his chances.

Keep up the good work Gerald!

Well we held our annual vote count on Friday the 27th of August.  Congratulations to our League skipper, Justin Mann, who won the Springdell medal for Best and Fairest in league. Justin broke his leg in the second last round of the year but did enough during the year to secure his first Springdell medal. He had a terrific season on the field but I'm sure he would trade it for a chance to play in the grand final. Great work Bluey!

Another local, Dale Wansbrough, was a close second by just 3 votes. Podgey had a great year and came home with a bang with a big 15 vote last round but it wasn't enough. Rhysy Rowlands, my prediction for the medal, came in third, not far behind Bluey and Podge.

In Reserves, young Cunderdin Ag boy, Fraser Wittwer finished the last 3 rounds with 38 out of a possible 45 votes to take out the honours ahead of Charlie Horrocks. It was Fraser's first year for the Redbacks and we have already signed him up for another year. However, I don't think he will be playing reserves next year. He's a quick and skilful midfielder/forward who has plenty of potential. Charlie also had a great year at Centre-Half-Back and would have been a worthy winner. Captain, Ben Moulton was also a strong contender and finished in 3rd place.

In the netball, Narelle Gault was voted the most consistent (best player), ahead of Sarah Owens. Jacinta Murray finished in 3rd. Narelle was adamant that Sarah would have won the award if she played every game but modest Narelle is more than worthy of the award. Well done Narelle!

It's interesting to note that Paul Grover polled 50 votes in his first 5 games of ressies to finish 5th (in ressies), and then polled 51 votes in league to finish 4th! He polled in every game but one. Rhysy Rowlands also polled in every game but one.

Well done to all award winners. You can see how it all panned out for the respective grades below. I can tell you that I was right in my prediction that I would barely get a vote, polling a measly 2 votes for the year. I'm a team man and it's all about the team haha!

A big thankyou must go to Mick and Jezz Barrett-Lennard who spent many hours counting the votes and putting together a neat Powerpoint presentation with a summary of the votes. I know Mick stayed up till 12.30am the night before the count, finalising the presentation. Good job lads!

The Football Club would like to extend it's thanks and gratitude to everyone who came to Beverley to help celebrate Keith Carr on his special day on the 14th of August. Also, to those who couldn't make it but donated money. Much appreciation

The day consisted of welcoming a large array of current, past, and future players and supporters; downing a few beverages; holding a few raffles, also a few auctions including a bottle of Jack Daniels, which sold for $170 to Jarrad Minchin (who shared the cost with Chantelle Meade). A Redbacks jacket was donated by a local Redbacks player and auctioned off for over $100 to John Barrett-Lennard. The raffles included a ticket to the Dockers vs Carlton game won by Andrew Coxon, and the others have eluded me.

Steve Minchin made a few words about Katie including talking about Keith's 45 years of service and stirring him up about his past girlfriends and wood-fire days. Michael Doyle followed this up with a great speech about Katie's days at the pub.

Katie was then presented with a football signed by all of the league boys, a Redbacks jacket, a few other trinkets, as well as a very generous donation.

The night carried on to until we were kicked out of the building, and I'm sure the club made a bit from the bar, as everyone drank responsibly and in a safe manner.

From all reports, everyone had themselves a terrific time, and commended Steve and the Footy Club for putting on a great day. Congratulations to all involved. There's no better way to thank a great contributor to our club, and the community as a whole.
